Transcription seems to fail for large audio files

On my MacBook Pro (2023) with M1 processor, I can't seem to transcribe audio files that are large. I have tried an .mp3 that is 90 minutes long, but it seems to not be able to transcribe the audio file after 5 hours.
My questions would be:
- How large can an audio file be, so that it can still be transcribed?
- Is splitting the audio file considered a good strategy? Do such chunks need overlap?
It just failed for me on a 21-minute video after about 5 minutes. This is running on an AMD 5950X with 64GB of RAM.
Disappointing.
